And I'm scared lol This is my first time running. To be honest, I don't know why I offered to run. I hate public speaking. Even though it's amongst friends, it's still hard for me to do it. It's a fun game, like DnD, only vampires of the dark world.

Last game I played of this my mate was running. And now I am running after him and I feel I am going to be compared to him, the great DM to a newbie. Though I know my friends are nicer than that, but I still feel like "Oh I hope I don't suck too bad"

I had a plot sorta panned out, but talking it over with my mate to get ideas, it really was a bad idea. I hadn't thought about the mechanics and forgot to take in everyone's abilities and the possibility that the truth would be found out right at the beginning and then that would leave my story hung up to dry.

So now I have to scrap that idea mostly and now I have to create a new story. I have a few side quests already sort of planned out, but not too much..

And I am running tomorrow night. I am also hoping that since I am around friends, that I can just hopefully come up with stuff on the fly. I do have my mate's help and my friend's help when I need it, and I will probably need help a lot.

Well, if anyone has any ideas for me, that would be wonderful, if not, just wish me luck lol I am going to need it..

Hello, I don’t know if you’re still looking for advice, but here are my two cents anyways
First, I recommend that you remind yourself that everyone is here to have fun. That’s why we do it right? Despite that preconceived notion that its GM verse players, a good group will want you to succeed.
Second, as people pointed out, everyone has their own style. So don’t stress out too much worrying about being compared to other GMs, and remember that you’ll never get better until you practice.
If you’d like some tips on improving your confidence, our group found that running single shot games before a major chronicle allows the GM to get a feel for the mechanics she wants to use, as well as giving players a sense on what to expect. Mini games also seem to give our GMs a sense of what works and what they don’t want to do in their game. Plus the practice is always nice and they don’t take a long time to set up.
If your still worried about a story line all advice that has already been given here are super helpful. You can also look into some of the premade chronicles set up by White Wolf for ideas. Their premade characters aren’t the best, but the themes behind them can yield some good results. Just be sure to give them your own flavor. There are also lots of great ideas littered around various vampire forms. I know I just typed in Vampire the Masquerade story ideas and several threads popped up.
Not to discredit your players, but I wouldn’t worry too much about them unraveling your story too quickly. They are going to come at the information presented from a completely unique angle, so what may seem obvious to you may take many session for them to get. Just keep in mind that you’ll have to be flexible because they may grab a tangent and run off with it.
Okay, so instead of two cents I kinda unloaded my piggy bank on ya. I hope you can dig out something you can use :)
Anyways, good luck
